    Notes from the Parent Meeting

    May 14th

    Thank you to everyone who came to the parent meeting this evening! And, indeed, thank you to everyone who has been at practice the past two evenings.  It is truly a joy to see the kids swimming and the parents gathered all around the Riverbrooke pool.

    Here are some of the highlights from the parent meeting this evening.

    1. The coaches want to hear about your kids.  During practice we need to let the coaches coach.  But in the 10 minutes before or after practice, please, please talk to the to coaches.  Tell them what your swimmers like, don't like, what they're good at or need to grow at, etc. Help them get to know your swimmer.  Everyone benefits.
    2. Swim meets run solely on parent volunteers.  In the next couple of days (I think I said it would be tonight, but that may have been overambitious on my part), all of the job sign ups will open up for each of the meets this season.  We need every family to volunteer for 2-3 half-meet spots over the course of the season.  You can sign up your swimmer for each meet and sign up for the jobs by using the team website or the SwimTopia app.   Needed volunteer spots will vary depending on the meet, but will include:
      • Timing a lane with a stop-watch
      • Lining kids up in the Bullpen
      • Running time sheets to the computer room
      • Handing out Heat Winner prizes
      • Meet Set Up
      • Meet Clean Up
      • Selling Concessions
      • Helping with Parking
      • Score Verification in the computer room
      • Stroke and Turn Officials
      3. We also need people to begin shadowing our more administrative positions to start taking over for parents whose kids are about to graduate and who are in need of a well-deserved break.
      • Volunteer Coordinator
      • Computer
      • Treasurer
      • Merchandise and Apparel
      • Concessions
      • Head Official: Starter, Stroke & Turn
    3. If you would like to volunteer in any other capacity than listed above because you have something to add to the team, especially to make the entire experience more fun for our swimmers, please let us know!
    4. The Time Trial / Mock Meet will be on Thursday, May 23 during normal practice hours.

    Again, thank you for everything you guys are already bringing to the team.  It takes a village, and we have a good one.
